Case Study: BBC Sydney – Transforming an Office into a Broadcast-Ready Studio

When the BBC needed a professional studio in Sydney to present news directly to camera, they turned to Dragon Studio Solutions to make it happen. The challenge was clear: take a small office space and convert it into a fully functional broadcast studio that delivers the polished look and reliability required for live and recorded news segments.

The Build

To ensure a professional and flexible lighting setup, we installed a series of LightPro 40B Tracklights across the ceiling. These provide even, consistent illumination that’s essential for broadcast-quality video while keeping the space clean and uncluttered.

To complement this, we added two LightPro 150B Bi-Color Rollable Flex Lites with DMX control (see product here). These powerful yet lightweight panels were mounted overhead, giving the studio team complete flexibility to fine-tune the colour temperature and brightness for different on-camera needs.

A selection of backgrounds was also incorporated, allowing presenters to easily switch between looks depending on the program or segment being produced.

Simple, Seamless Operation

One of the key goals of this project was ease of use. Every light in the studio was ceiling mounted and connected to a single switch system — meaning presenters and staff can walk in, flip one switch, and the studio is instantly ready for broadcast. No complex setups, no wasted time.

The Result

What was once a standard office space is now a sleek, functional studio that allows the BBC to deliver news to camera directly from Sydney with confidence and efficiency. The studio not only meets technical broadcast standards but also provides the simplicity and reliability needed for a fast-paced newsroom environment.
