Hu Studios

Sydney Hire Studio

The Brief

Hu Studios needed a corner cyclorama roughly 6m x 5m and 4-5m tall. The space had to support everyday people and brand content, with the option to bring a car onto set for occasional automotive shoots. Just as important as the wall itself was the lighting: it needed to be professional-grade, but operable from a phone or tablet rather than requiring a dedicated lighting technician on every shoot.

The Build

Dragon Studio Solutions built a two-wall cyclorama to fit Hu Studios' footprint, with the surrounding non-studio walls finished in Gyprock so the client could later add their own black timber acoustic panelling.

For the floor and cyc wall, Dragon Studio Solutions specified a matte studio-grade white paint rather than an epoxy finish. Epoxy is durable, but its glossy surface creates reflections and hot spots under studio lighting, and it doesn't take repaint touch-ups well — a working cyclorama needs to stay camera-ready, which matte studio paint is built for.

Overhead, the team installed a custom 4m x 5m lighting grid with a hanging scrim for softened light, fitted with RGB LED panels that are fully controllable via a wireless app — letting Hu Studios run the entire lighting setup from a single phone or tablet.

The Result

A flexible, camera-ready cyclorama studio: lit, painted, and ready for people, product, and brand content, built to Hu Studios' exact footprint and designed for one-person operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What paint finish is used on the Hu Studios cyc wall, and why not epoxy?
