Potts Point Bar & Kitchen

Architectural Lighting Fit-Out

IntroductionWhen the design team for a premier hospitality project in Potts Point approached us, the brief was highly specialised. The goal was to create a bar and kitchen fit-out that didn't just look stunning to the naked eye but was purpose-built for high-end food photography and social media content. Our mission was to integrate a professional lighting rig into a luxury interior environment without compromising the sleek, minimalist aesthetic of the architectural design.

Key Features and ChallengesThe primary challenge was the dual-purpose nature of the site. It needed to function as a high-traffic working bar and kitchen while simultaneously acting as a ready-to-go film set for digital marketing.
Structural Integration: We had to work within the strict constraints of a premium fit-out, including high-end stone surfaces and custom joinery that could not be cluttered with traditional stands.
Light Management: In a professional kitchen environment, steam, dust, and highly reflective surfaces (like polished stone) can create significant technical hurdles for image quality.
Ease of Use: The system needed to be simple enough for the internal team or visiting creators to operate without a dedicated lighting technician on-site.

Equipment RequirementsTo provide maximum flexibility with a zero-floor footprint, we utilised the Godox KNOWLED MS60R RGB LED system. These lights were chosen for their exceptional colour accuracy and integrated app-control functionality, allowing the user to dim or adjust the colour temperature of the entire room via a smartphone.
Rigging: We installed a custom Steel Rod System suspended from the ceiling beams.
Versatility: Using specialised scissor arms and clips, the MS60R units can be moved, angled, or removed entirely in seconds. This allows for a "butterfly lighting" setup that perfectly highlights the texture of the build and the culinary presentations.

Construction Elements

The installation was meticulously timed to coincide with the final "fit-off" of the project. We coordinated with the site team to ensure the ceiling-mounted steel rods were perfectly aligned with the architectural lines of the bar.A single, isolated 10amp GPO was installed on the ceiling to provide a clean power source, completely eliminating visible cables. To enhance the lighting "bounce," we ensured the tabletop surfaces acted as natural reflectors, softening shadows and providing a professional "wrap" of light around subjects and dishes alike.

Conclusion

The Potts Point project successfully proves that professional production capabilities can be seamlessly "hidden" within luxury interior design. The space is now a functional, high-end kitchen that doubles as a world-class content studio at the flip of a switch. This build has revolutionised how the client handles their marketing, allowing for broadcast-quality content to be captured in-situ without the need for external crews.
