How Triple J Is Evolving Radio with Video-First Studios
Radio has always been about sound — the voices, the music, and the stories that connect with audiences. But in today’s digital world, the way audiences consume media has shifted. Social platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok have made visual content just as important as audio. To stay ahead, leading radio stations like Triple J are embracing video-first strategies, and Dragon Studio Solutions was proud to deliver a lighting solution to make that possible.
For this project, we upgraded Triple J’s Ultimo studio with the LightPro Tracklight 60RGB LED lighting panels — a flexible system designed specifically for modern broadcast environments. Unlike traditional static lighting, these panels offer full RGB colour control, enabling the station to instantly adapt the mood of the studio. Whether it’s crisp, neutral lighting for a serious interview or bold colour washes to match the energy of a live set, the system provides broadcasters with total control.
The lighting was mounted on track systems, allowing lights to be repositioned with ease as the studio setup changes. This not only creates professional-quality video content but also ensures efficiency in day-to-day operation. For a space where presenters are live on both radio and camera, it was essential to install a solution that balances broadcast-quality illumination with the ability to create a vibrant, engaging atmosphere.
This investment reflects a bigger industry trend: radio stations are becoming multimedia content creators. Listeners are no longer tuning in only via FM or digital streams; they’re also engaging with stations on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, where behind-the-scenes content, interviews, and performances get shared worldwide. By bringing video into their studios, Triple J is ensuring their content is platform-ready from the moment it goes live.
With the new LightPro lighting system in place, Triple J now has a studio that not only sounds great but looks great too — ready for a new era of social-first broadcasting.
